About the Thomas of Chobham Lecture
This well-established lecture, exploring contemporary ethical complexities, is held
in honour of Thomas of Chobham, a 12th century cleric associated with Chobham.
Thomas was a leading theologian and moral philosopher of his day and sub-dean of
Salisbury Cathedral.

Sir Ghillean Prance was the latest in a line of distinguished speakers to give the
Thomas of Chobham Lecture on the theme of “Are We Nearing the Environmental Tipping
Point?”
A prominent botanist and ecologist, Sir Ghillean is former director of the Royal
Botanic Gardens, Kew, and scientific adviser to the Eden Project.
He is past president of Christians in Science. He is also a trustee of the Amazon
Charitable Trust, and a Vice-President of the Nature in Art Trust.
Reg Bailey carried out the recent Government-commissioned, independent review into
the commercialisation and sexualisation of childhood and was author of the report
