Lavinia Sealy, a member of the congregation and Chobham’s county councillor, completed a daring sponsored challenge, abseiling the 162ft from the summit of the tower of Guildford Cathedral to help raise a chunk of the £1m needed for modernisation and restoration.

Harvest 2011

Over the years, we have collected many different things for harvest. In 2011, the year of the census, we are challenging the village to collect a new ordinary black lead pencil for every person in the village. That will be in the region of 4,600 pencils which will go via the charity, Read International, to 60 schools in Uganda.

We hope schools and organisations in the village will rise to the challenge.

Here are some pictures from the recent Church Clypping celebrating the feast of St Lawrence. Members of the congregation held hands to form a circle all the way around the church.

Happy Anniversary Andrew

The Vicar celebrated the 40th anniversary of becoming a priest at Sunday morning Chobham Festival Eucharist on September 25th. The Bishop of Guildford was the preacher. Andrew is pictured, right, with the Bishop and with his grandchildren, Joshua, Bethany and Heather.

UPDATE
In the end we collected, Not 4,000, not 5,000 or 10,000 but 23,437 pencils.
Thank you everyone
The Big Thank You Card to the Queen

A card will be available signing at the back of St Lawrence Church definitely to the end of April.
You can also sign online... Click here

Saying goodbye was always going to be hard, and Andrew’s final Sunday at St Lawrence before his retirement, April 29th, was full of emotion. It was followed by a farewell lunch for him and Pippa at a packed St Lawrence School Hall.

For the congregation of St Saviour, Valley End, it meant not only saying farewell to their vicar, but also to their organist... Pippa.

But it was, of course, also an occasion to celebrate Andrew’s 15 years in Chobham and Valley End and the achievements of that time.

And while we are feeling very sad at seeing Andrew and Pippa go and will miss them hugely, we know it’s an exciting time for them as they begin the next stage of their lives and settle into their new home in Ludlow, Shropshire.  Reported on chobham.net   Pictures

From Andrew and Pippa: Our farewell at Chobham was very moving in one sense of the word, and no sooner was it over than we were ‘moving’ in another.

Our thanks to everyone who made that last Sunday such a special occasion – we have lots of photos to treasure, as well as the wonderful and extremely generous gifts we received, and for which we thank you.

The move itself went very smoothly, and we are almost entirely unpacked. We have had a very warm welcome from both neighbours and the church and are sure we will soon feel very much part of a very active and lively community here.

We will miss you all, but hope that you will feel free to call if your journeys take you in this direction. Our phone number is 01584 877465 - do give us a ring if you are going to be in the area. We genuinely would love to see you.

From the Vicar: One more step along the world I go... and to Ludlow Fair
