Guildford Cathedral Link

Guildford is Surrey’s cathedral, the mother church of the Guildford Diocese and a gathering place for people of all ages and from all walks of life.

It is a venue for a host of cultural and community events, as well as daily services of choral worship.

The cathedral, at Stag Hill was consecrated in 1961.

It is truly a “people’s cathedral” because a substantial part of the funds to complete its construction was raised from a 2s 6d (12½p) appeal, supported by thousands of people - including those from Chobham and Valley End - who “bought a brick” and whose names are inscribed in the very fabric of the building

In 2011, the cathedral celebrated its 50th anniversary.

Keeping in touch

Lavinia Sealy and Davina Smiley promote the parish-cathedral link, keeping people in Chobham and Valley End informed about services and events at Guildford. Look out for the information leaflets in the churches.
