Baptisms are wonderfully happy occasions - to celebrate the arrival of a new member of the human family, but even more to celebrate the love that God has for that child. Here, he or she becomes part of the great family of God throughout the world, which is why baptisms take place when the local part of the family is gathered for worship.
Anyone living within the parish boundary – adult or child - has a right to baptism (Christening) in our churches. We do not normally baptise those from outside the parish unless they are part of the worshipping congregation, and would never do so without the goodwill of the parish where they live.
Baptisms are usually on the 1st Sunday of the month at 10.00 am. at St Lawrence. Since we are limited by numbers to three families each month, early enquiry to the Vicar (01276 858197) is advisable. The Vicar will visit to explain the service, and someone will also call afterwards. We encourage people to come to watch a baptism before their own.
Baptisms at St Saviour take place during the 9.00 am. service at mutually agreed dates.
We encourage teenagers and adults who are coming to be baptised to have their baptism at their Confirmation Service.
